Don’t fear automation

A survey of 4,000 American workers to better understand their views on the future with a focus on automation reported the following:

  • 3 out of 4 people fear that automation might replace them in the workplace
  • 3 out of 4 people are also dissatisfied with their job

These two should actually cancel each other other to make for a win for everybody involved.  Allow me to explain.

The key lies in the why behind the job dissatisfaction statistic.

What are the primary reasons listed for why people are dissatisfied with their work?

It’s too boring and repetitive

What is automation designed to actually replace?

The boring and repetitive work.

Automation is expected to actually help increase job satisfaction as it eliminates work people don’t want to do and frees them up to work on more interesting projects.

Simultaneously, your firm will become more efficient which means greater profits for less work.
